Marguerite de Navarre, Madame d'Angouleme, Duchess of Alencon
Margaret of Navarre b. 1492, d. 1549, is the sister of French King Francis I. She was one of the most important intellectual women of her time , patron of poets and scholars, among others, Clément Marot . She married in 1527 the King of Navarre. Their main work, which drew on the model of Boccaccio's "Decameron" Heptameron of nouvelle "is a Sammlungvon stories that are built into a frame. Margaret also wrote secular spiritual poetry.
